Time Flow: A Poetic Expression of Craftsmanship in Retail Space

Zhihong Hu's Leding Bespoke: A Fusion of Traditional Tailoring and Modern Design

Unveiling Leding Bespoke, a unique retail space by Zhihong Hu that marries the art of traditional tailoring with modern design. The project, inspired by the traces of time perceived through objects, brings the forgotten elements of the handmade era back to life.

Zhihong Hu's design for Leding Bespoke is a testament to the beauty of the tailoring process. The design concept, "Time Flow," is expressed through movable cubes that symbolize the transformation of fabric into a suit over time. The space is designed to revolve around this central idea, with areas dedicated to sewing and tailoring. A long terrazzo table in the VIP lounge connects the interior and exterior spaces, emphasizing the geometric structure of the entire space.

The design employs a variety of materials, including polished white tile flooring, textured white paint walls, and a ceiling of black matte metal. LED strip lights, spotlights, and track spotlights illuminate the space, while a staircase of black matte metal adds to the modern aesthetic. Other features include blue laminated glass, yellow mirror metal plate, blue veneer, white terrazzo, and 3D printed portraits and props.

Technical specifications of the design include movable cubes measuring 100mmx100mmx100mm each, a yellow metal display table, a white terrazzo display table, and various display frames and cabinets. The design also features a tailor counter and 3D printed body props at a 1:1 human scale.

The design process involved four phases: conceptual design, schematic design, construction drawing, and construction. The project began in October 2018 in Shaoxing, China, and was completed in August 2019. The design team, which included Jin Xin, worked diligently through each phase to ensure the project's successful completion.

The design faced challenges, particularly in integrating the entrance with the staircase, as the main entrance is on the second floor. The solution was to use blue laminated glass on the side of the stairs and place numerous cubes around it, creating the illusion of cubes growing within a large blue glass cube. This design element also provides an intriguing invitation for guests entering the space.

The Leding Bespoke project has been recognized for its innovative design, winning the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2021. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise, creativity, and innovation. Zhihong Hu's design for Leding Bespoke certainly fits this description, showcasing a remarkable level of excellence and introducing a sense of amazement and wonder.
